Our Freedom Tour

World War II Memorial in Washington DC

Lynn and I went on an 11-day tour entitled “In Freedom’s Footsteps.” That was exactly what it felt like!

We began the tour in historic Philadelphia, America’s first capital city. We had a private tour of the Museum of the American Revolution, a tour through the historic district, then visits to Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed. We also viewed the Liberty Bell.

We then spent a day in Amish Country and Gettysburg, including a visit to the Gettysburg National Military Park. We had an authentic Amish lunch as part of our day.

We traveled to some of the Gettysburg battlefields, and stopped by Harper’s Ferry. So much of what we experienced was eye-opening!

A day was spent in Charlottesville and President Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. Then, on to Richmond, capital of Virginia and the capital of the Confederate States of American during the war.

Following that visit, we spent a day in 18th Century Colonial Williamsburg.

We then traveled to George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate, overlooking the Potomac River. The tour ended with some time in Washington DC. We had been there on two prior occasions, so we focused on what didn’t exist then. We visited the World War II and Korean memorials, the Holocaust Museum and the “Newseum,” which featured interactive exhibits that take you behind-the-scenes to explore everything from current events to the role of a free press in a free society – how news affects our shared experience of historic moments.

And then Robin had to visit a few art galleries

It was a fabulous tour!
