The story of the sale of our Fresno home was a reaffirmation to us that the decision we made last summer to move to Washington was the right one.
We talked to a few of our neighbors shortly after we came back to Fresno last October, sharing the news that we intended to leave the area in Spring 2016. Shortly thereafter, one of the residents in our community came to our door.
Friends of hers currently living most of the year in Chicago were looking to relocate full-time to Fresno, and were interested in finding a home in our community (Nees Park Place on the Southwest corner of Nees and Millbrook). They were interested in seeing our home sometime after they arrived in Fresno in late December.
This news motivated us to begin deciding what we would keep … and what we would give away. By the end of December, we had the house “staged.” Our plan was to network through the neighborhood in January, and if there was no interest, we would list with a realtor by February 1.
The couple made contact with us in late December. We set up an appointment for them to see the house. They loved it.

They knew that we couldn’t leave the area until the end of the third week in May. They asked us what we would want to do “if we could choose the perfect situation.” We answered that we would love to have our house sold by early spring, and rent from the buyer until we moved, rather than moving twice. And that’s exactly what happened. Within two weeks the house was in escrow. Not only did the buyer of our home drop in our laps, but we are renting from them until our May 20 departure date.
It’s bittersweet. Lots of memories were made here. But it’s a house. We’ll take the memories with us. God has blessed the buyers of our home, kindly Christian people; and he’s blessed us as we make final preparations to relocate to Washington.
